Scrapbooking Page Ideas - Using Cheap Scrapbook Supplies

When trying to think up new and exciting scrapbooking page ideas, over embellishing a layout is often the a dilemma that a keen scrapbook enthusiast will face. I can’t tell you the number of times I have created a scrapbook page layout which is filled with embellishments and bits and pieces from my card making supplies, only to look at it, see that it is overdone and end up picking most of the embellishments off!

Sometimes the best scrapbooking page ideas are those that have been created using simple and cheap scrapbooking supplies. These are items that have either been handmade by you, or are so simple they cost very little money.

Before creating your scrapbooking page ideas and especially if you have lots of photos, you need to spend a decent amount of time choosing the best ones for the page. Try not to put too many on. I would always suggest no more than three unless you are cutting them down or doing a double page.

The background of this particular scrapbooking layout is a blue 12 x 12 piece of paper that has a water effect on it. This ties in with the whale in the water theme perfectly.

The tail of the whale used to embellish the page has been drawn freehand onto black card. The words ‘whale watching’ are made from silver peel off scrapbook stickers that have been carefully placed onto the tail of the whale. You could also use rub ons or print the wording from your computer if you wanted too.

The whales head has also been drawn freehand onto the same black card. A single silver peel off sticker has been used to make the eye. The water spray that is coming from the spout of the whale has been made using little gems, however if you do not have small gems in your craft supplies then you could always use items such as brads, eyelets, scrapbook stickers or make the little dots using a silver pen.

All the paper has been attached to the scrapbooking layout using double sided tape. I find this is the best way to attach paper to paper because there is no mess and the double sided tape is very strong. The gems were glued using a glue that will dry clear.

The photos were attached to the page using special glue that lasts a long time but is not permanent. This means that if you wanted to reuse the photos and remove them from the scrapbook page you could without the photos getting damaged or ripped.

As the page has not been over embellished I feel the photos stand out much better, so do consider this when creating your scrapbooking page ideas as quite often, little can be more.
